Production Log Week 7

This week was deadline week, me and my partner were under a lot of pressure, as we still needed to record some more scene's in a studio on the day of the deadline, this week we had to complete the music video to the best standard possible, so that we could stay on schedule.

Although we were behind in terms of work we managed to stay on deadline and we were able to stick to our production schedule. Me and my partner were finding it very difficult to edit as we needed to re-do a shot but the problem was that the actor was off sick due to being this meant us delaying by a day, however on the day of the deadline me and my partner recorded the shot again and we also edit the whole music video that day.

We had many problems this week, we found it very difficult to edit as we could not understand what the actor was lip syncing, by not understanding what he was actually saying we had to re-record specific lines so it looked better. On deadline day me and my partner stayed back after school so we could meet deadline.

This week we have finished the music video to the best standard possible, me and my partner gave all the effort possible could, however i thought that if we had more time we could have got it to a better standard. Making this music video has allowed me to gain skills that i could use next time, for example use time efficiently because when you are editing it is all about time.

Production Log Week 6

This week by far was the most hardest i believe as we were very productive as a group as we done a lot of things, We re-shot two scene's after finishing the rough edit on Tuesday, however we still have two more scenes to do this will be done on Monday, we recorded a new scene which we thought was needed this was a scene of the artist and then in the shot we see him fading, after we shot all the scenes we uploaded the work on the macs then transferred it on to final cut express and then carried on editing, after finishing editing me and my partner have decided to shot more performance this will be done on the deadline day and will be edited then uploaded to the music on the same day this is possible if we work really hard.

We are slightly behind schedule but should be okay as long as me and Asad are focus on what we are doing, we fell a bit behind as our artist was not in on Friday due to him getting injured after stepping on a screw this meant we had to wait till his back in on Monday, hopefully we can record the performance scene and upload same day.

This week we had a few problems first problem was that i had fallen ill this week, which meant me not be in, this meant my partner working on his own when i wasn't in, however my partner has been editing non-stop and has done the quality to a good standard. The second problem this was that on Friday we were meant to re-film some shot, however the actor was not in as they were injured which means we are slightly behind.

Next week the plans are that we finish the re filming on the same day then we can complete the editing of it and then finish the music video, Next week will be a challenging week as we all know editing is time consuming, if we work hard it will pay off.

Production log week 5

This week we were very close to finishing editing, we still have a little bit left to edit and then as a group we will see if we can improve our music video, we have also added the song to the music video by downloading it to the mac, this gave us a better understanding of the song, we also made sure that we cut to the beat by starting different shots when the beat came in, this made the music video more entertaining and enjoyable as there are more shots.

This week we were meant to finish the rough edit by Friday, however due to editing taking time we will have to finish on Monday, also we will make sure we catch up and get to schedule by working extra hours outside of lesson time.

When we were editing the music video we found it very difficult to put the lip syncing in as we recorded the performance three times in different positions, this made it difficult for us to put it in but we did after a lot of time. To download the song was very hard as we could not due to school restriction on the internet, this meant us having to wait to get home and getting the song on a USB stick.

Next week we will be looking at our music video and checking if we need to record any of the scenes again, this will be done on Tuesday after school, and we will also carefully listen to the music video and check if all the shots are cutting to the beat, this will make our music video more entertaining and amusing.

Production Log Week 4

This week we started to edit the footage we got last week, we started off by getting all the footage from the memory card to the mac, then we made a new scratch disc and then we logged and transferred all the footage. We have a lot of footage which meant that it was taking long time to transfer the footage, however the more footage we had the better it would be. We have have completed roughly edited 50% of the music video. We also used a editing software which was Final Cut Express, i knew how to use this software as i had used it previously this helped us work faster and more efficiently. Below is an image of the software we used and the mac.

At the moment we are currently on schedule to finish editing, however me and my partner may need to record outside of lessons time, this is depending on how productive we are in the lesson.

We faced many challenges this week as some of our footage got cut which meant it not finishing it off smoothly, this meant that us needing to put the memory card in the camera and transfer the data, this was successfully done.

Next week our main objective finishing our rough edit, also we will be recording another scene which did not come out right, we will be recording this scene in our own time it would not take that long, after we finish the rough edit we will get the feedback from the teacher and improve from that. Below is a picture of me and my partner editing the music video.

Production Log Week 3

This week was a very busy week, as we were out most days of the week recording the music video and we have been very successful as we have recorded all the shots we needed this week. At the start of the week we had many challenges as the actor in the video had other commitments like recording their own music video. However we were very lucky for the actor to come 3 days and record with us. The first day we recorded the performance at south bank and we also done some nice scenery shots

The second day we started recording the narrative, on this day we tried recording as much as we could, we manage to record half of the narrative then on the next day we recorded the other half we manage to finish it. However we me and my partner went again in the evening to get better scenery shot in the dark. The below picture is me recording the artist.

We faced many problems this week one was that we were not allowed to record with our tripod at Olympic park because of safety reasons this meant us needing to find another location, also on two the days we wanted to record it started raining which meant us having to arrange another day. Also on the first day we done a stupid mistake as we did not charge the camera and we came to the location and found out there's no battery, this meant us needing to find a place were we could charge it, after charging at a local coffee shop in central London, it was close to sunset this meant that we didn't have that long so we tried our best recording all our performance that day.

Next week as a pair we will start to edit the music video's and we should have a draft by march 11th and if we need to we can re shoot some of the shots if there not upto the same standers.

Production Log Week 2

This week we have been extremely busy to make sure that we meet the deadlines of all our, as a team we were very productive as we had done 4-5 tasks each in a week. We had many deadlines for all the pre-production work as we wanted to be recording in the holiday as we had more free time as there would not be no school. Below is a link to my blog which contains ours pre-production work we submitted this week.

http://ismailhussainmusicvideoblog.blogspot.co.uk/

As a team we split the work up, as we were a team of two we had more work to do, i done the following pre-production work

  1. Call Sheets- in the call we had to state what shots we were going to record, what props we needed, who was going to be there, when, where and any reminders we needed.
  2. Permission for filming was when we got permission from the places we were going to record, however if it was a public place we would not need permission.
  3. Risk assessment is where we wrote the hazard of the place we were going to record and we had to say if it was high/med/low risk and we also wrote what we would do to control it.
  4. Location Reccies is when we evaluate the places we were going to record and we also needed to compare to a back up location.
Having all this work meant that i needed to work very hard as i had a tight schedule which meant me needing to put more hours in. End of the week i was lucky enough to meet the deadline as i had a lot of work. I learnt that under pressure i work better as i know i don't have time to waste. Me and my partner worked very hard i believe as we also had to complete the shot list which is very time consuming as it you need to think about how you want the shot to be and what it should connote. Below is a picture of me and my partner working very hard so we can meet the deadlines.

As we have finished all the pre-production, it means that we will be starting our production work next week and as a team we will finally be recording the music video we have been planning all these days. This we will try our best to record as much as we can.

Production Schedule

Shot List

permission for filming

Public places

Screen shot from http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/

We have decided to record in public places because the locations we are using don’t require permission as the locations are public places as you can see from above the screen shot says that it is legal to record in the public places as it’s owned by the government not owned by privately. As you can see I have a screen shot from the Crown Prosecution Service, which states that it is not a criminal offence if it is not for exempted for work, by this it means that it’s not a job you are paid for.

Permission to record in the house

The above written letter is a confirmation that we can record in Ismail’s house, the letter has been signed by the house owner which owns the premises. The above permission allows us to record at Ismail's house.

All the permission above is all we need as we will be recording in public places and the house, the above permission allows us to record in the places which we have listed.

Risk Assessments

Location Reccies

Job Roles and Responsibilities

Camera Operator and Editor-

Ismail will be operating the camera as he feels very confident managing the camera and feels as though he will be able to get good shots. He also has the most experience than everyone else dealing with cameras and has shot many other short films for Media Studies. Ismail will also take on the responsibility of editing the music video as he feels as though he is suited to it and also edited many video’s in the past 3 years in media.  Ismail also has a lot of knowledge about camera language this is why we have chosen Ismail to be the camera operator and editor. Overall, Ismail's got a good idea on how to operate and edit films for example Ismail edited the below video with his partner's.

Director and Production Manager-

Asad will be directing the music video as it is his idea being used for the video. He knows exactly how the video should and will look.  He has a clear vision for the final video. So, it makes sense for him to direct everyone on how they should be performing or filming.  Asad will be the production manager as he has managed most of the previous films he has shot in Media Studies and feels confident enough to take on the role. He is also very good at instructing people and also has imaginative ideas as he chose to do Product Design as a subject in GCSE. He is used to working on a deadline and making drafts of projects. Overall, Asad has good directing skills and is very punctual with his work, so will benefit the film to have him direct it. Asad has also directed a short film in media below is the video.

Production Log Week 1

Production Log Week 1

This is a production log for my music video which will be created by me and my partner, on these weekly production logs i will be explaining what i do daily and how i progress. Also will be telling you if i face any problem during the tasks.

This week we were very productive, this week we manage to complete one of the task which was called planning your music video below there is an hyper link to the task.

In this blog you will see the task i completed, my task was to separate the verses and chorus's and then on the table i had to list the key events, key characters and key locations. By doing this task it allowed me to understand my partners idea better, it also gave me a rough insight how it would look because we know where we going to film, during this task it was hard for me to give an input as i did not understand the idea fully, however after my partner telling me about it, it gave me more understanding, also seeing the lyrics helped me understand the meaning behind the song. After completing this task we were set to do another task which was the shot list, in the shot list we had to include what king of shot, angle, movement it will have and also the length after that we had to write the description of the shot and what it connoted, also the actors and equipment's needed. The shot list is still to be done as it needs to be detailed as we want to make sure it is accurate we should be looking to finish the shot list by the second week. Overall this week has been okay as we could have done more, however since the shot list needs to be detailed we should spend more time so it's accurate, however spending more time on shot lists means that will have less time to do other task this will mean both of us need to work harder.

Next week will try our best to complete all pre production work like the shot list, production schedule, location recce, risk assessment and cast permission. If we do finish all the work end of next week we will start to record the music video.

Pitch Reflection

Pitch Reflection

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give more detail on?
My presentation focused mostly on the creativity of my pitch this meant me explaining why my idea was different, there was a key concept In my music video which was unique, this was the genre subverting bit, in my hip hop music video I made it different as the artist was dressed in a smart way whereas normal hip hop music video they mostly wear casual clothes, this made my idea different. In my pitch I would wanted to explain more about the camera techniques I will be using as that would have gave the audience a better understanding, if I did this again I will try add more details to the camera techniques.

What did your audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?
The audience like the fact that my music video was different compared to other music videos, they wasn’t expecting, this told me I choose a good concept. Another strength I found was that my music video had a lot of music video conventions like lip syncing and genre subverting etc. this made my music video more interesting according to the audience. This pleased me as I wanted to use a lot of music conventions as I know that it will make my music video more entertain than others, this is why I choose to do so. Strength was that they liked the fact that I was characters who matched the artist identity I was aiming for.
What did your audience identify as areas for improvement?

Many people told me that my idea was good but I could improve it by adding more ideas to it for example including a female actor in my music video would allow me to aim the music video at both genders. This improvement has helped me make my music video more universal, by this I mean I can appeal it to more people rather than the niche audience, this will allow my music video to be more popular as it would be universal. Another improvement suggested by the audience was that I add more cast to my music video as it add more energy to the music video.
What changes will you make to your music video concept based on your feedback received?

Overall the feedback has been okay, but I will be making amendments very soon. My plan is to improve my music video by defiantly adding female cast, as the feedback allowed me to understand that by changing small things I could make it better and also aim at more people, this is my main aim as I want a universal audience. Another amendment I will be making is to make sure that my cast is chosen appropriately, by this I mean that they match the role.

Potential music video's

Analysing My Song

Lyrics

Look
[Verse 1]Okay, Life for me is beautifulDon't do what I used to doGetting money, counting cashGo together two and two.Who's gon be the next to stop me?Not you, you, or you!I'm a winner so I win,You just do what losers do.Broke-minded simple people never made it nowhere,And they be hating on other people but I just really don't careNigga we can go there.Let's not forget to mentionthat everything's in your reach if you just stop to pay attention, listen.
[Chorus]I know that god's got something bigger for meAnd all it takes is a little believe. So I pray for a minutenow it's time to go get it.I promise/ That I will never go and quitMama brought me here to winOh I promise/ That I'm a stick to my beliefsI know the lord is watching me.
[Verse 2]Okay, I thank the lord that I'm so blessedI'm the best, i must confess.Never worried bout the failures, I'm just worried bout success. On this road to victory and it seems like a long route, but I'm a die with a smile and paper before I go out. yeahAnd tell 'em that I'm half famousDon't care what they rate me, as long as I'm with the greatest.Never listen to satin, I promise this life's amazin'And I don't hear what them haters say, cause they the lamest. So I ain't got time for debatingLove my white stones you can tell I'm not a racist.Young Blade in the building catch me front stage, I'm just try'na get my dollars up like a raiseAnd they gon love every word I sayI keep it one hundred, all these other rappers fakeI'm staying in my lane, these other niggas starting to swayAnd this the real me, you would never see me change.

.

Target audience

Age-The age my artist aims at is 15-25 years old because in the lyrics we see him talk about failure and how he does not care about failures, only cares about the success, this shows us that he is trying to send inspirational message as he was not that successful when he was younger.

Gender- The gender is mostly male as in the mise en scene they have used in the music video connote that its mostly male as we do not see any females feature in the music video and also we have many convention which appeals to male like their cars and cigarette this indicates it's aimed at males.

Interest-  They would be interested in hip hop and stories because in my music video it's talks about when he was younger he wasn't that successful, now he is as he believed in his self.

location-  Young Blade is located in America, i believe that he has aimed at america because of the mise en scene like the location is in the american and also the cars are, however the lyrics are in English which makes it universal in a way.

Ethnicity- The ethnicity it is aimed i believe is mostly black because the artist is black an we see other black people feature in the music video.

Analysing Lyrics

The lyrics are very interesting and they also are very inspirational because we see the artist say 'Never worried bout the failures, I'm just worried bout success' in the music, this motivates the audience to not think about the failures and to think about their success instead, we see the artist give advice to the audience this shows us that the artist has been through the problem this makes us feel sympathetic towards the artist as he has been through a lot.

Analysing Music

The music itself is very upbeat and very entertaining for the audience and also the song makes people more happy as the music is upbeat which creates energy for the audience, for example at 1.35 min the music changes and which makes it catchy and more jolly which makes the audience hear the whole song. The music also relates back to the genre of the music video as we relate that type of music to hip hop as it is upbeat and very fast.

Analysing Tempo

The tempo of the music is very high because the artists wants the audience to start to dance to the music and the tempo throughout the song for example at 1.34 min it's a bit low then it goes high again when the chorus comes in.it goes high again, so there is a range of tempo in the song , this makes the song more enjoyable and entertaining for the audience. Overall the tempo is important as i believe it sets the mood of the song for example if the song has high tempo tells us its a happy mood song.

How would you visually communicate this in a video

I would try to build a relationship with the audience by this i would want the artist to be signing to the audience so i would use direct mode of address and i will make sure in my music video are try make it more universal this means to aiming a specific audience. i would have the artist singing in front of the camera on his own for a small time period as it does build a relationship between the audience and artist, i would also locate in different places so it is more interesting than the original music video, i believe by adding more different mise en scene to make my music video more lively.
