Production Log Week 4

This week we started to edit the footage we got last week, we started off by getting all the footage from the memory card to the mac, then we made a new scratch disc and then we logged and transferred all the footage. We have a lot of footage which meant that it was taking long time to transfer the footage, however the more footage we had the better it would be. We have have completed roughly edited 50% of the music video. We also used a editing software which was Final Cut Express, i knew how to use this software as i had used it previously this helped us work faster and more efficiently. Below is an image of the software we used and the mac.

At the moment we are currently on schedule to finish editing, however me and my partner may need to record outside of lessons time, this is depending on how productive we are in the lesson.

We faced many challenges this week as some of our footage got cut which meant it not finishing it off smoothly, this meant that us needing to put the memory card in the camera and transfer the data, this was successfully done.

Next week our main objective finishing our rough edit, also we will be recording another scene which did not come out right, we will be recording this scene in our own time it would not take that long, after we finish the rough edit we will get the feedback from the teacher and improve from that. Below is a picture of me and my partner editing the music video.

Production Log Week 3

This week was a very busy week, as we were out most days of the week recording the music video and we have been very successful as we have recorded all the shots we needed this week. At the start of the week we had many challenges as the actor in the video had other commitments like recording their own music video. However we were very lucky for the actor to come 3 days and record with us. The first day we recorded the performance at south bank and we also done some nice scenery shots

The second day we started recording the narrative, on this day we tried recording as much as we could, we manage to record half of the narrative then on the next day we recorded the other half we manage to finish it. However we me and my partner went again in the evening to get better scenery shot in the dark. The below picture is me recording the artist.

We faced many problems this week one was that we were not allowed to record with our tripod at Olympic park because of safety reasons this meant us needing to find another location, also on two the days we wanted to record it started raining which meant us having to arrange another day. Also on the first day we done a stupid mistake as we did not charge the camera and we came to the location and found out there's no battery, this meant us needing to find a place were we could charge it, after charging at a local coffee shop in central London, it was close to sunset this meant that we didn't have that long so we tried our best recording all our performance that day.

Next week as a pair we will start to edit the music video's and we should have a draft by march 11th and if we need to we can re shoot some of the shots if there not upto the same standers.

Production Log Week 2

This week we have been extremely busy to make sure that we meet the deadlines of all our, as a team we were very productive as we had done 4-5 tasks each in a week. We had many deadlines for all the pre-production work as we wanted to be recording in the holiday as we had more free time as there would not be no school. Below is a link to my blog which contains ours pre-production work we submitted this week.

http://ismailhussainmusicvideoblog.blogspot.co.uk/

As a team we split the work up, as we were a team of two we had more work to do, i done the following pre-production work

  1. Call Sheets- in the call we had to state what shots we were going to record, what props we needed, who was going to be there, when, where and any reminders we needed.
  2. Permission for filming was when we got permission from the places we were going to record, however if it was a public place we would not need permission.
  3. Risk assessment is where we wrote the hazard of the place we were going to record and we had to say if it was high/med/low risk and we also wrote what we would do to control it.
  4. Location Reccies is when we evaluate the places we were going to record and we also needed to compare to a back up location.
Having all this work meant that i needed to work very hard as i had a tight schedule which meant me needing to put more hours in. End of the week i was lucky enough to meet the deadline as i had a lot of work. I learnt that under pressure i work better as i know i don't have time to waste. Me and my partner worked very hard i believe as we also had to complete the shot list which is very time consuming as it you need to think about how you want the shot to be and what it should connote. Below is a picture of me and my partner working very hard so we can meet the deadlines.

As we have finished all the pre-production, it means that we will be starting our production work next week and as a team we will finally be recording the music video we have been planning all these days. This we will try our best to record as much as we can.

Production Schedule

Shot List

permission for filming

Public places

Screen shot from http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/

We have decided to record in public places because the locations we are using don’t require permission as the locations are public places as you can see from above the screen shot says that it is legal to record in the public places as it’s owned by the government not owned by privately. As you can see I have a screen shot from the Crown Prosecution Service, which states that it is not a criminal offence if it is not for exempted for work, by this it means that it’s not a job you are paid for.

Permission to record in the house

The above written letter is a confirmation that we can record in Ismail’s house, the letter has been signed by the house owner which owns the premises. The above permission allows us to record at Ismail's house.

All the permission above is all we need as we will be recording in public places and the house, the above permission allows us to record in the places which we have listed.

Risk Assessments

Location Reccies

Job Roles and Responsibilities

Camera Operator and Editor-

Ismail will be operating the camera as he feels very confident managing the camera and feels as though he will be able to get good shots. He also has the most experience than everyone else dealing with cameras and has shot many other short films for Media Studies. Ismail will also take on the responsibility of editing the music video as he feels as though he is suited to it and also edited many video’s in the past 3 years in media.  Ismail also has a lot of knowledge about camera language this is why we have chosen Ismail to be the camera operator and editor. Overall, Ismail's got a good idea on how to operate and edit films for example Ismail edited the below video with his partner's.

Director and Production Manager-

Asad will be directing the music video as it is his idea being used for the video. He knows exactly how the video should and will look.  He has a clear vision for the final video. So, it makes sense for him to direct everyone on how they should be performing or filming.  Asad will be the production manager as he has managed most of the previous films he has shot in Media Studies and feels confident enough to take on the role. He is also very good at instructing people and also has imaginative ideas as he chose to do Product Design as a subject in GCSE. He is used to working on a deadline and making drafts of projects. Overall, Asad has good directing skills and is very punctual with his work, so will benefit the film to have him direct it. Asad has also directed a short film in media below is the video.

Production Log Week 1

Production Log Week 1

This is a production log for my music video which will be created by me and my partner, on these weekly production logs i will be explaining what i do daily and how i progress. Also will be telling you if i face any problem during the tasks.

This week we were very productive, this week we manage to complete one of the task which was called planning your music video below there is an hyper link to the task.

In this blog you will see the task i completed, my task was to separate the verses and chorus's and then on the table i had to list the key events, key characters and key locations. By doing this task it allowed me to understand my partners idea better, it also gave me a rough insight how it would look because we know where we going to film, during this task it was hard for me to give an input as i did not understand the idea fully, however after my partner telling me about it, it gave me more understanding, also seeing the lyrics helped me understand the meaning behind the song. After completing this task we were set to do another task which was the shot list, in the shot list we had to include what king of shot, angle, movement it will have and also the length after that we had to write the description of the shot and what it connoted, also the actors and equipment's needed. The shot list is still to be done as it needs to be detailed as we want to make sure it is accurate we should be looking to finish the shot list by the second week. Overall this week has been okay as we could have done more, however since the shot list needs to be detailed we should spend more time so it's accurate, however spending more time on shot lists means that will have less time to do other task this will mean both of us need to work harder.

Next week will try our best to complete all pre production work like the shot list, production schedule, location recce, risk assessment and cast permission. If we do finish all the work end of next week we will start to record the music video.

Pitch Reflection

Pitch Reflection

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give more detail on?
My presentation focused mostly on the creativity of my pitch this meant me explaining why my idea was different, there was a key concept In my music video which was unique, this was the genre subverting bit, in my hip hop music video I made it different as the artist was dressed in a smart way whereas normal hip hop music video they mostly wear casual clothes, this made my idea different. In my pitch I would wanted to explain more about the camera techniques I will be using as that would have gave the audience a better understanding, if I did this again I will try add more details to the camera techniques.

What did your audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?
The audience like the fact that my music video was different compared to other music videos, they wasn’t expecting, this told me I choose a good concept. Another strength I found was that my music video had a lot of music video conventions like lip syncing and genre subverting etc. this made my music video more interesting according to the audience. This pleased me as I wanted to use a lot of music conventions as I know that it will make my music video more entertain than others, this is why I choose to do so. Strength was that they liked the fact that I was characters who matched the artist identity I was aiming for.
What did your audience identify as areas for improvement?

Many people told me that my idea was good but I could improve it by adding more ideas to it for example including a female actor in my music video would allow me to aim the music video at both genders. This improvement has helped me make my music video more universal, by this I mean I can appeal it to more people rather than the niche audience, this will allow my music video to be more popular as it would be universal. Another improvement suggested by the audience was that I add more cast to my music video as it add more energy to the music video.
What changes will you make to your music video concept based on your feedback received?

Overall the feedback has been okay, but I will be making amendments very soon. My plan is to improve my music video by defiantly adding female cast, as the feedback allowed me to understand that by changing small things I could make it better and also aim at more people, this is my main aim as I want a universal audience. Another amendment I will be making is to make sure that my cast is chosen appropriately, by this I mean that they match the role.
